Practising certificates have dates. So do your vendors.
Reminders to the responsible person.
A missed practising certificate is a professional problem. A missed office lease is a different professional problem. Both are dates with a document and a person who should get the mail.
Typical items
- Practising certificates and bar dues
- Professional indemnity
- Office and equipment leases
- Research database contracts
- Entity annual filings you handle for clients (if that is in scope)
Ownership
Every item needs an owner email at the firm. "Office" is not an owner. The reminder should name the item and the date, not "you have a task".
Attachments
Keep the current certificate next to the date. When you renew, replace the file and reset the expiry. Do not start a new item every year unless you want history that way.
FAQ
Is this legal practice software?
No. It is a dated-item list. It does not file anything with a regulator.
Can we use it for client matters?
Only for dates you are actually willing to be reminded about. Do not dump every limitation period in here unless your process is ready.
